The Rogue Lands is a virtual world where everything appears real. It’s made of six provinces: Theloria, Azmagor, Romar, Istari, Calladon and Vaspard with each having their own individual character. Each province is a setting for one of Maxwell Jones' adventures in the Rogue Lands.
Meet Maxwell Jones, or Max for short. He is the True Worlder. An expert gamer from the real world, he’s a level 100 assassin mage with enough power to level a city, or at least a small village. His life is going perfectly until he decides to cross the all-powerful Corporation, the clandestine force that orchestrates the world’s most prestigious gaming tournaments. His decision sets in motion a chain of events that tests his resilience, cunning and resourcefulness. Shot and badly injured, Max awakens in the Rogue Lands, a surreal place that feels like a game but is far too real for comfort. But far from being a safe haven, Max is confronted with a harsh reality. Stripped of his hard-earned ability, he is a level 100 mage no more and reborn a novice, an unseasoned newcomer with no skills and no allies. His only choice is to play the game, improve his stats and hope he wins.
Meet Eric, Max's charming, arrogant and often infuriating mentor in the Rogue Lands. He’s shrouded in mystery, but at one point was the savior of the whole of the Rogue Lands. It is Eric who brings Max to the Rogue Lands to play the game and help defeat the threat of the Demon’s from the Abyss who threaten to lay darkness to both the Rogue Lands and Max’s own world. Max is sure to rely on Eric’s sage counsel and experience if he is to be successful in his quests.
Meet Terra, a warrior in the resistance fighting against the evil forces that threaten to overrun the province of Theloria during The Devil's Gate. Care-free and easy going by nature, when there is a fight to be had, this girl is hard as nails. She will do anything to protect her homeland against the evil forces that are threatening Theloria.
Samriel, although most call him Sam, is a native of Theloria. After being rescued by Max in The Devil's Gate, Sam joins him on his quest. Built like a football player, Sam is a tank, ready to smash through their enemies. Fiercely loyal, there is nothing Sam wouldn’t do to help Max succeed in his quest as he knows that the future of both Theloria and the Rogue Lands itself lie in the hands of his True Worlder friend.
Sarah is Max’s guide in Azmagor, tasked with helping him to reach the ominous sounding Dead City. She’s an expert tracker and can wield a staff in combat like no other. She has an innate sense of direction and brooks no argument from anyone. Max will rely on her a lot during his quest but still knows next to nothing about her. There is a mystery about Sarah and one that Max is determined to solve.
